Carnegie Hall Citywide: Catalyst Quartet

Sunday, November 17, 2019 4 PM Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library
Catalyst Quartet by Ricardo Quinones
The Catalyst Quartet—an ensemble known for its commitment to diversity and education—presents a program that celebrates the legacy of two composers previously overlooked in classical music due to their race or gender. Price’s Five Folksongs in Counterpoint span the warmly Romantic to homespun Americana, while her String Quartet in G Major’s rich harmonies and breathlessly beautiful slow movement are stunning. Also performed is Coleridge-Taylor’s Fantasiestücke, a superb set of expressive character pieces, each with its own style and tone. This performance is part 400 Years of Inequality, a nationwide initiative exploring the ongoing repercussions of slavery and inequality, and the ways these forces shape our lives today.
