CUNY Arts

Opening doors to arts & culture in NYC

Our Mission

CUNY Arts is an initiative founded to create opportunities for all students to experience the richness of New York City’s arts and cultural institutions. CUNY recognizes that exposure to the arts improves students’ critical thinking skills, broadening their ability to think strategically, while acknowledging the absence of the arts in most of higher education. Our mission is to expose CUNY students to the wonders of the arts in NYC.

Goal 1

Facilitate integration of the arts into all aspects of university curriculum.

Goal 2

Adopt New York City cultural institutions as an extended campus by providing free access to museums, participation in special and curated cultural events.

Goal 3

Provide paid internship opportunities throughout the academic year through programs like CUNY Cultural Corps.

“NYC is the world’s cultural nerve center and CUNY is committed to helping our students gain valuable exposure to the arts. We are proud to partner with NYC’s most renowned cultural institutions through paid internships, events, performances and other special opportunities.”

-Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez

As part of MoMA and CUNY’s partnership, faculty, staff, and students across all 25 campuses receive free admission.

Together we aim to make MoMA more accessible to CUNY’s diverse campus communities. By fostering new and creative connections to meet the needs of CUNY faculty and students with MoMA learning resources, we create opportunities for exchange, collaboration, and learning.

Explore our exhibitions online; teach and learn about art from home with our free online courses, podcasts, and hands-on activities; and research the history of modern art remotely with resources from our Archives, Library, and Research Collections.

Additionally, through this partnership, MoMA makes a significant annual donation of exhibition catalogues and primary resource publications to CUNY libraries, and organizes special events and programs for CUNY faculty and students.

To receive a complimentary ticket, and purchase companions’ tickets if needed, check in at the Ticketing Desk onsite with a valid ID; advance timed-entry tickets are not required.

Changes to MoMA groups and admission:

Interested professors and faculty can book a free, unguided visit with their class through Groups and Tours.
